Portland Transcon--30 Days, 3,500 Miles

Since signing up for this ride with PAC Tour last July, nearly a year ago, my focus has been on July 5th, 2009, our roll out date from Portland, OR. 3,500 miles and 30 days later we'll roll onto the beach at Tybee Island, GA off the coast of Savannah.

Despite a super crummy winter in IL (even now it's July 1st and 62 degrees was our high today), I will arrive in Portland with a >6,000 mile training base under my belt for 2009, including 800 miles in AZ for hill and heat work, 20 rides between 80-150 miles in length, and several weekends in Wisconsin training on the hills around Madison.

Here's our basic route. We'll follow the Oregon Trail through Oregon and Idaho and then we'll climb the steep mountain grades of Utah and Colorado. Before reaching the plains of Texas and Oklahoma we will have climbed 16,000 feet of mountains. YIKES, what have I said "yes" to?
